Updates on face mask wearing at CHANGEpain Clinic

Dear patients,

We would like to inform you that CHANGEpain is removing the mandatory mask wearing policy at our premises.

We follow the Provincial Health Officer orders and remind you that if you have active illness symptoms, such as cough, runny nose or vomit, please remain at home to prevent infection.

If you are experiencing symptoms that may be a result of an infection, please inform us immediately, and we will try to convert your appointments into virtual ones to guide you through the next steps. If you have symptoms like a cough that is not related to an infection, our staff may ask you to wear a mask.

Please contact our operations team if you have any concerns or questions regarding our safety protocols.

Thank you for your cooperation in keeping our workplace safe.

Sincerely,

CHANGEpain Clinic

Core Pain Program & Signing Patient Engagement Agreement

You have two options to sign and return the Patient Engagement Agreement.

Why are we bringing this change?

The decision to make this change was based on how the COVID-19 pandemic has created a severe burden on pain management services across the province. Just in 2021, CHANGEpain clinic received around a 705% of increase in some of the virtual services being delivered when compared to 2020. We delivered more than 20,000 episodes of care combined. This drastic influx made the CHANGEpain structurally change how services were being delivered. Furthermore, to add to this burden, there are only limited number of clinicians working in the chronic pain management space. With this being a perfect storm, it was getting challenging for us to ensure:

1. Our services are accessible to all in a timely manner

2. We respond to queries from our patients as soon as possible

3. Support all our patients with the whole person care

How will this change improve the situation?

The evolution into a program-based approach will ensure that every patient gets a pathway tailored for its specific needs while working towards equitable healthcare access for all the British Columbians and Canadians.

As part of this new program , CHANGEpain’ s Core Pain Program, patients would have access to services funded by MSP for up to 12 months. In these 12 months, the focus of the program is to:

1.     Diagnose the root cause of the chronic pain

2.     Manage the pain flare ups

3.     Educate the patient on various strategies to self-manage and cope with their pain

4.     Transition the patient to the community or rehabilitative services for the long-term management of their pain needs

We are actively working with the province and the Canadian government (learn more) to ensure pain care is effectively accessible to all Canadians. CHANGEpain’s Core Pain Program has been strategically structured to balance cost for the systems, patient satisfaction and top-notch clinical management based on the most rigorous evidence available.

How will this change impact existing CHANGEpain Clinic’s Patients?

Starting February 1, 2022, existing patients should expect a letter coming from CHANGEpain Clinic explaining the program, expectations, and the next steps. Following that, the patients will be required to:

1.     Sign an engagement contract sent over email before April 1, 2022

2.     Attend one of the program orientation group medical visits before May 1, 2022

3.     Work with your treating physician to co-create your 12-month pain program at CHANGEpain Clinic

How will this change impact existing New Patients?

1.     Sign an engagement contract sent over email

2.     Attend one of the program orientation group medical visits

3.     Fill the initial assessment questionnaire called “Intake Questionnaire”

Cancellation Policy

Please note that we have changed our cancellation policy. Starting March 1st, we require at least 48 hours notice before your appointment time to cancel or reschedule appointments; and 24 hours notice for Group Medical Visit appointment cancellation and changes. This allows CHANGEpain Clinic to offer available time to other patients needing care.

For MSP-covered services, two short-notice cancellations (less than 48 hours), or two no-show appointments may result in a discharge from the Clinic and a re-referral will be needed to access our MSP-covered services. Please note: We do not charge for missed MSP appointments, but you will be discharged after two missed appointments

For private-pay services including Allied Health, a no-show fee will be applied to short-notice cancellations (less than 48 hours) or if you do not attend the appointment. The no-show fee corresponds to the full price of the service and is not covered by your insurance. Payment is expected before you attend subsequent private pay sessions
